Our Philosophy

The Practice Your Whole Family Can Settle Into

A great family dentist becomes a long-term part of your life. They know your kid's history, your dad's bridgework, your spouse's anxieties. They see you twice a year for decades. That kind of relationship doesn't happen at corporate chain offices — and it's exactly what we offer.

Dr. Nivin's practice has grown almost entirely through referrals from existing families. We have multi-generational patients — grandparents who first came in years ago, now bringing in their grandchildren. That continuity matters.

Whether your family member needs a routine cleaning, a first-ever exam, or a complicated restoration, the experience is the same: unhurried, gentle, honest, and personally led by Dr. Nivin and her long-tenured team.

What to Expect

Your First Family Visit

If you've been searching for a long-term family dental home, here's how we start the relationship.

Step 1 — New Patient Paperwork

Quick online forms before your visit so you can spend your appointment time getting care, not filling out paperwork in a waiting room.

Step 2 — Comprehensive Exam

Dr. Nivin personally examines each family member. We take digital X-rays only if needed, screen for oral cancer, and check overall mouth health.

Step 3 — Cleaning & Polish

Our hygienists do a gentle, thorough cleaning. For kids' first visits, we go slow and let them ask questions throughout.

Step 4 — Plan & Discuss

At the end of the visit, Dr. Nivin sits down with you and walks through what she found, what needs attention, and what can wait. No high-pressure pitch.

Step 5 — Schedule Next Steps

Whatever your family needs — whether that's a follow-up cleaning in 6 months or treatment planning — we set it up before you leave.

Common Questions

Family Dental Care, Explained

How often should we come in?

+
For most patients, twice a year for routine cleanings and exams. Patients with gum disease history, heavy plaque, or other concerns may benefit from 3–4 times a year. Dr. Nivin will recommend a schedule based on each family member's needs.

At what age should my child first see a dentist?

+
Within 6 months of their first tooth coming in, or by their first birthday — whichever comes first. Early visits aren't about treatment — they're about getting your child comfortable with the dental office and catching anything that needs attention early.

What insurance do you accept?

+
We accept most major dental insurance plans including PPO, Denti-Cal, and IHEVP. We also accept CareCredit and offer in-house financing for treatments not covered by insurance. We verify coverage before your visit so there are no surprises.

What if my child is anxious about dental visits?

+
Completely normal — and we're prepared for it. Our team is trained to work with anxious kids. We go slowly, explain everything in age-appropriate language, and never force a procedure. For severe cases, we offer pediatric sedation. Many of our most cooperative young patients started out terrified.

Can I bring my whole family in the same day?

+
Yes — we often schedule family appointments back-to-back so you can take care of everyone in one trip. Just let us know when you book and we'll arrange it.

How much do regular cleanings cost?

+
With most insurance plans, routine cleanings and exams are covered at 100%. Without insurance, a comprehensive new-patient exam and cleaning typically ranges from $150–$250. We provide pricing upfront before any appointment.
